Design Trend: Black is Back
The color black has always been a staple in many facets of life. Currently the color is taking the design world by storm and proving that it can be the go-to neutral for your home. Black will never go out of style—it is a timeless way to play with dimensions and light in a space. There are so many ways—big and small—to incorporate the color into your home.
The color itself comes in two finishes when referring to interior design, glossy and matte. Matte, in particular, is all over the design community. For most projects before, the matte black was used in more modern designs, but that idea is being challenged today. With black being used in everything from bohemian to farmhouse, the color truly is a chameleon that can fit with your personal style to elevate your space. How you use it is up to you.
If you are looking to go bold with black, you can utilize solid and patterned tiles to use as a backsplash or a tile floor. This can bring out the character of a kitchen, bathroom or entryway. In a kitchen or bathroom, you also have the option of black cabinets. When used with something like a white quartz countertop, the dramatic contrast can definitely turn heads.
Something you might not consider will dramatically change a room are windows. Just the simple change to black trimmed windows instead of the traditional white, can change the interior and the exterior of your home.
For a simpler and more understated look, you can use black as a substitute in portions of your design where you would traditionally use nickel and brass. With cabinet, light and plumbing fixtures, using black can really provide a cleaner look. This is especially true when paired with gold and wood accents.
