Burgess Front doorAs a consumer, all our decisions require time, energy and hard-earned money. We want as much feedback on the product as we can possibly find and if we can see first-hand for ourselves what the outcome is, then that’s even better.

When the neighbors down the street saw the newly restored historic home, originally built in 1900, that was owned by the Burgess family, they knew our team at ABD was the company they wanted. Keeping the history alive in a home, while also making it flexible, functional and modern was exactly what they needed for their own home.

But the biggest selling factor for the Burgess’ neighbors was the fact that they couldn’t tell the home had recently been remodeled and changed so drastically. If they hadn’t watched the daily work on the home, and seen first-hand the before and after, they may not even believe it themselves! ABD takes great care when working on historic projects to make the home more functional and usable while retaining the original character, look and feel of the home.

In the Burgess home, we took on three major remodeling projects that added to the functionality of the home without changing the physical look.

  • We began by demolishing the existing back entry, which also served as the laundry area and staircase to the basement. The finished project produced a more modern space, and it created more room for daily living and storage. The project also involved adding an updated master bed and bath to the main floor of the home.
  • In the bottom portion of the home, our team added additional unfinished basement space with rough-in plumbing to an existing unfinished basement that allows the family to finish the basement space in the future to fit the needs of a growing family.
  • Added to the upper level of the home was a large, open art studio. This room was designed as a studio, but can easily be turned into a flex space when needed.

Referrals are the most powerful and effective pieces of information a consumer can rely on in order to make a significant buying decision. Referrals are invaluable in our business, and home remodeling can be one of the largest investments you will ever make. At ABD, we want to keep the details, such as the historic woodwork intact, while also creating a modern place for your family.

Restoring a historic home requires special care. Dealing with old structures and building materials takes an experienced team, and what better way to find that team than through the work and referral of happy clients! Visit for more information.
