Hall & Stairs What happens when you outgrow your home? For Bailie Burgess and her husband, Curtis moving simply was not an option. Living in a home that her father-in-law previously owned had instilled roots and value for the Burgess family. They began their lives together with a backyard wedding, and brought their first-born home a few years later. All these big life events creating a bigger vessel for memories out of their home.

The Burgess’s beloved historic home was built in 1900 and originally had 900 square feet with two bedrooms and one bath. With a growing family, more space was necessary. “We spoke with a few different companies in town and felt that Bob was the most personable and honest, in terms of price and capabilities, about the project,” Burgess stated.

Our team at ABD began remodeling the Burgess home in Ft. Collins by demolishing the existing back entry, which also served as the laundry area and staircase to the basement. The finished project produced a more modern look and feel to the rooms, and created more space for walking and storage. The project also involved adding an updated master bed and bath to the main. “Working with ABD was a breeze,” said Burgess, “They took care of everything and made sure to keep us informed on the project. We appreciated that we really didn’t have to do anything other than pick finishes, which was even made super easy for us.”

In the bottom portion of the home, our team added an unfinished basement with rough-in plumbing to an existing unfinished basement. In the current basement we fixed floor supports in the existing living room. We added rough-in plumbing to the new area in case the Burgess family decided to add an extra bathroom in the future; they could do so without hassle. “We liked that they did everything for us instead of us attempting to hire out all the different companies ourselves,” stated Burgess. When remodeling any segment of the home, no job is too small or large for us to handle.

Studio Added to the upper level of the home was a large, open art studio. This room was designed as a studio, but can easily be turned into a flex space when needed. “We were impressed by their ability to take our ideas and create our vision with little changes needed,” said Burgess. However, the upgrades and remodeling didn’t stop on the inside. We also replaced the front door and repainted it a bright blue, which joyfully invites guests into the home. The entire home and garage were also repainted and a concrete patio was added. “Ron was excellent in instantly answering our questions and concerns during, and even after construction was completed,” said Burgess.

When undergoing remodeling projects, sometimes the budget goes slightly above expected. “When meeting with final pricing before signing the contract, the project cost was above our budget,” Burgess stated. “But Mark and Bob did a great job at getting that figure as close to our budget as possible. We will definitely call them first for any renovations in the future.”
